Now that it is getting a bit colder – or at least as cold as it can get here in California; it is time for some much needed star gazing. A while ago, a few friends and I had all pitched in to purchase a rather large amateur telescope. With the weather cooling down, that means that there is less atmospheric distortion in the telescope and much clearer images, which is always a good thing! Now it just comes down to driving up to the low-lying mountains around Los Angeles in order to get a better view with much less light than the city.
As much of this happens out in the middle of nowhere and the telescope is only three or so feet from the ground; we usually bring a vinyl mat of some sort with us so that we have something comfortable to kneel and sit on. It definitely takes the joy out of looking out into the universe if you knees are being pinned by sharp rocks, so the gymnastics mats certainly do come in handy.
Perhaps this weekend the tribe and I will head up to the mountains for a night and see what we can see. We have had a lot of success in the mountains and I would certainly love to see Andromeda (our nearest Galaxy) again; as that is quite a sight. So I think we will be packing up all the science gear mumbo-jumbo and our folding exercise mat and head out early tonight. ‘Second star to the right and straight on till morning’.

I’m currently on my way to the high Sierras for a little nature bonding with the boys for my brother-from-another-mother’s bachelor party. We decided the traditional Vegas regrets would be a little to cliche for us, so instead, we’re gonna go on epic hikes and camp lakeside. While I wouldn’t consider myself a regular outdoors man, I certainly have enough appreciation to at least try to get out at least once a year into the open wilderness. As we were loading up everyone’s gear, however, I realized that I would not be enjoying the same comforts as everyone else… You see I overlooked an important detail. An exercise mat…
I actually forgot to bring even a yoga mat. The irony isn’t lost on me either. Every day I’m literally talking about how comfortable and portable our 2′x6′ folding exercise mats are. How they’ve got just the right firmness crosslink foam. How they are comfortable enough to lay on and nap on, but also firm enough to do exercise on.
As I write this I’m overcome with nervous anticipation to what comfort or lack thereof awaits me as I set up camp and eventually retire on bare ground. I can literally see the sample 3/8″ thick foam mats resting on the corner of the office cabinet… just there… waiting. Waiting for me all week to go “Hey, I’ll probably need that!” Instead, I’ll have to brave the cold night on bare ground as the roll of comfortable foam sits at the MatsMatsMats.com office sitting in bitter silence at not having been noticed.
I am not a smart man…

I came down with a nasty flu this week. Not nasty in length, but in severity. 103 degree fever for a solid four plus hours or so. When it finally broke, I felt like I was hallucinating. And I actually was. You see, I thanked my girlfriend for bringing me the glass of water that I didn’t ask for and in reality, wasn’t even there. After stumbling from bed to the kitchen for some refreshment and battling my cat to not trip me as I shuffled my feet in what can only be described as an alien imitation of human bipedalism, I had a revelation. I was sick from the gym! Of course! All the grime, sharing equipment, and that one folding exercise mat
I used… I remember the one. I had a bad feeling about using the common exercise mat
but I went ahead and did it anyway. Four days later, BAM! Sick as dog. Now, I wouldn’t dare suggest that this particular facility does not disinfect its workout mats
regularly, but I have my suspicions.
I always wondered why we sell our mat disinfectant
. That sounds stupid… I know WHY we use them, but I never really thought about it in context. But the sweat, the grunts, the exhausting of ones body to the limits while perspiring sweat and salival grunts, well, let’s just say your gonna be swapping fluids (involuntarily) with a couple of people at your gym. I’d like to think that ALL gyms (and after researching OF COURSE THEY DO) disinfect their daily use common equipment with disinfectants and a mat cleaner
, but if you happen to be extra paranoid like me, take your own aerobic mats with you from here on out.

THIS IS AWFUL… I know… all I’ve thought about the past month has been moving… and now that we moved (earlier than expected as a result of misunderstandings with our landlord), it seems the worst of it is over. Now the sun seems to be coming up figuratively and literally, it’s warming up! Finally… all this 50 degree weather was beginning to be an icicle in my… well, you know… life. I guess, now, it’s okay to get off that zafu pillow and bust out my outdoor yoga mat.
The warm weather is encouraging my girlfriend, me, and well, it seems everyone, to get up and go outside. Put away those video games, young padawans, it is time to venture into the outside world! Sun, trees, grass, and beautiful bodies (of water) await your curious eyes!
If you’re like me, I bet you can “bearly†stand eating alone. So “bear†down, find your Mexican blankets, pack a picnic, bring a friend, bring the whole family, and even the dog because in Southern California sunny weather means sunny disposition. That is unless, of course, you are allergic to grass. Or pollen… or the sun… or people.
Hmmm… didn’t think that one through now did we. Not a problem though!  I’m sure we can improvise some use from our gigantic warehouse full of mats and goodies to work for us. A towel is not only tacky and soooooo 90’s to lie down on grass at the park, it’s also not entirely comfortable. Try a multi purpose mat like our tote-n-mat instead. What if you’re sun bathing? Well you can certainly use a folding exercise mat. Comfortable enough for the home or the park, these UV treated vinyl mats will suffice for outdoor use for you and your loved ones to lay around and bask in glorious, nurturing sunlight!

In the last three weeks a good friend of mine came back into town. He was diving in the Gulf of Mexico for the last eight months and I guess you could say he had become a bit home sick. So, now he is back…and living in my living room. This is not a problem at all, since this guy and I are more like brothers than friends. However, I have noticed that some of my more cherished, nay; revered comfort products have been going missing or simply finding their way into his possession. This is a problem and needs to stop! After a long day at the office and then almost falling asleep on my folding exercise mat, I just wanted to be comforted with my beloved pillow.
Now, I love my Television. Seriously, I mean LOVE IT! So, naturally, I also love anything that will allow me to more easily and comfortably view my television from my bed. I have a cherished Reading Pillow that I use for the not so productive activity of watching TV. So, after a day of work I come home to ready myself for a bit of trash TV before actually having to do something productive, and what do I see; my bed, minus a TV Pillow. So, I naturally begin to hunt, and search for this beloved accessory of mine.
After a failed half hour of pain-staking rummaging, I finally found my back pillow, tucked away with my friend’s air mattress in the corner of my living room. A feeling of relief quickly washed over me, followed quite immediately by mischievous ideas to liberate his body pillow in retaliation. Perhaps I shall do so this weekend. Wish me luck and I’ll see you all next week.

Christmahanakwanzika is coming and I’d like to tell you guys about my favorite products. Unless you’re a gymnast or dancer yourself, you might not know what things to look for- let me help!
My most favorite product is by far the Mylar Mirror. They have the most clear reflection (better than a regular mirror) and they don’t reflect a lot of light which makes those duckface pictures in the mirror so much easier to take, since the flash doesn’t bounce back at you! Just kidding!! If you’re a dancer you know that the reflection of a light can obstruct your view of yourself, which makes rehearsing in front of a mirror kind of pointless. There are also no ghost images.  So if you’re standing further away, you won’t see a blurry or double image of yourself. I also really like how light these glassless mirrors are. Whether you have them on rolling frames or mounted to the wall, they are easy to maneuver or reposition. The other cool thing about them being so light (especially if you have school and you need multiple mirrors) is that whether you purchase one or six, shipping cost will stay the same.
My next favorite product would probably be the Softwood or Soft Floor Interlocking Tiles. The wood ones I really want to put in my living room. Every once in a while I want to lie on my stomach and watch TV, but I don’t have carpet so it’s not very comfortable. Having these foam tiles would make it much better. Since they look like wood I wouldn’t have to worry about putting them away- this speaks to my laziness. A lot. The colored ones are great for kids playrooms, the Soft Rubber Tiles work amazingly in work out areas or washrooms where you’re potentially standing on your feet for a while. Over all the Soft Floor Tiles are very versatile.
The Matlay Dance Floor is another product I wish I would have known about when I used to dance. I can’t tell you how many splinters I’ve gotten from trying to dance on wood, and you certainly can’t tap on wood, or tile for that matter. The Matlay floor is a smooth, and strong, material that allows you to move smoothly and protects any floor if you happen to tap. One other great thing about Matlay flooring, if you tap or have people in your house that do, is that it helps muffle the sounds.
Lastly, I like the Folding Exercise Mat. The fold in half, which makes storing them and taking them out very easy. They might come in handy this weekend…I’m having a party and there are always people that are too..uh…tired to go home so I could just pull out a mat from my closet or under a couch and let them sleep there.
